Professional Services

Ancestry Starter Service

This service is suitable for those who would like to trace back their English or Welsh ancestry to the early 1800s.  Research is internet based.

The scope of the research is flexible depending on the number of surnames you wish to trace, the depth of the investigation required and the budget available.

Bespoke Archive Research

I can undertake both Family History and Academic Research in London and the east of England.

Family History Research

Do you want to extend your own investigations or build on the research in my Ancestry Starter Service? Would you like to trace back your ancestors to the period preceding the census returns and general registration?

There is a wealth of original source material available at county archives and local history libraries that can be used to trace your family's pedigree and flesh out the bare bones of your family tree. For example Parish Registers and Bishops Transcripts can provide the dates when your ancestors were baptised, married and buried but apprenticeship indentures, poor law documentation and taxation records can reveal their occupations, their locality and their standing within the community.

Academic Research

Are you an author or academic who needs the services of a professional researcher in order to locate, photograph or interpret documents held by archives in London and the east of England?

I am a qualified archivist with a BA in History and I can offer my clients over fifteen years of professional expertise in researching and analysing documents held by repositories such as Cambridge University Library's Manuscript Department, Cambridge University College Archives and the National Archives in London.

You may wish to commission research on an hourly basis
. Fees can be restricted by stipulating a cost ceiling and as much research as possible will be carried out within your budget. I will never exceed a specified budget without prior agreement. I currently undertake research at:

Visits to other repositories may be available. Please contact me to discuss your requirements

As part of the free consultation process an agreed plan of work will be developed with you detailing the specific research required and identifying the archives in which the research will take place and the costs.

At the end of the project a hard copy report will be sent to you detailing my methodology, the results of my research and references for all sources consulted whether they yielded positive findings or not. Detailing all sources is crucial in order to ensure that research is not duplicated at a later date.

Document Retrieval Service

I am happy to obtain copies of specific documents (subject to copyright) or undertake a “one off” search to extract information from an original document such as a baptism entry in a parish register or an ancestor's marriage licence or settlement certificate.
Please be aware that detailed references will speed up the research process and thereby reduce costs.

If you are requesting a proposal for any of the services outlined above please include as much information as possible about the family, house or locality you wish to investigate in order to avoid duplication of research effort and unnecessary costs. This information could include details of any previous research carried out and/or copies of any original documentation such as GRO certificates, wills etc.

Please see Commitment for details of my Data Protection Policy.
